What is mesothelioma cancer?

Mesothelioma cancer is a rare form of cancer that affects the stomach or chest but also it  could also affect the heart. The National Cancer Institute defines malignant mesothelioma "as a rare form of cancer in which cancer cells are found in the sac lining the chest, the lining of the abdominal cavity or the lining around the heart." To break up the term mesothelioma further, mesothelioma found in the abdominal cavity is known as peritoneum mesothelioma, malignant pleural mesothelioma is the most common and is a cancer which is found in the lining of the chest, and mesothelioma is found in the lining of the heart (aka pericardium mesothelioma) and is the least common form of mesothelioma cancer.

People who develop mesothelioma cancer have most likely worked in environments, where they inhale or swallow asbestos particles. What are the symptoms of mesothelioma cancer?

Mesothelioma cancer is very hard to diagnose  and sometimes it can take many years to experience the symptoms (sometimes 30 years later). However, some people have no  symptoms of their cancer. Also, mesothelioma symptoms can often be confused with other minor illnesses, such as shortness of breath, cough that won't go away, pain in the chest, muscle weakness and sensory loss, pain or swelling in the abdomen, coughing up blood, fever, major weight loss, and difficult swallowing. If you experience symptoms and you are working or exposed to the areas of of the professions mentioned above, you should have your doctor conduct an x-ray of the chest or abdomen.

Once Mesothelioma is diagnosed, the chances of recovery vary according to several factors, including the size and location of the tumor, how much it has spread, and the age of the patient.
